Jan Fischer is an important Czech statistician, politician and economist. In the years 2009-2010, he was the 8th Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, later he became Minister of Finance and 1st Deputy Prime Minister of Jiří Rusnok. In 2013, he was a non-party candidate for president of the Czech Republic. He also served as Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London. Jan Fischer was a member of, among others, the Czech Statistical Society, the International Statistical Institute (ISI), the scientific council and administrative board of Prague University of Economics and Business and the scientific council of Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem.
